About the cemetery
The cemetery was built in neoclassical style and provides interesting examples of funerary sculpture from the nineteenth to the twentieth century. The site hosts monuments of high cultural value and different styles, such as neoclassicism, realism, symbolism, Art Nouveau and other forms of contemporary art. The sculptors are mainly local: some artists take as a model important sculptures such as the Thinker of Rodin and the Angels of Giulio Monteverde.
The graveyard hosts illustrious tombs, such as that of the scholar Ippolito Pindemonte, of the poet Berto Barbarani, of the writer Emilio Salgari and the futurist artist Umberto Boccioni. The cemetery is an open-air museum accessible to visitors who are interested to discover two centuries of city history from an unusual perspective.
